What Happened to the White Walls?

This residential home belongs to a family located in Wyckoff, NJ. An electrical fire erupted from the garage door opener. Luckily there wasn't much flames to cause structural damage however the amount of smoke and soot it produced was extensive. Sometimes soot may go unseen but in this case the difference is like night and day. Some areas were even charred beyond restoration that they needed to be removed and replaced. The photo shown is the adjacent room from the garage on the lower level of the home. The smoke also traveled to the upper level of the home causing smoke odors and a thin layer of soot.
