Handling A Residential Water Loss
10/14/2024 (Permalink)
A water loss can happen at any moment to your property, whether it be from a burst pipe, appliance malfunction, or severe weather. Acting fast is crucial to minimizing the damage. The first thing that should be addressed is the source of the water. Once that is discovered and fixed, we can move to the mitigation. Here is a brief overview of the water mitigation process.
Immediate Response
Once the water has stopped at the source we can go ahead and begin. When we receive a call, we will arrange for a technician to be dispatched at a time that works best for you. We highly recommend tackling the issue as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the property from occurring.
Assessment
A chief technician will identify the scope of the damage based on visual inspection along with the help of specific tools/devices that allow them to see if areas are wet even if it may be behind a wall. They will take moisture readings to determine what areas of the home have been affected by the water.
Water Removal
If there is any standing water on the property, we will pump it out or use wet vacuums to remove the water that is currently on-site.
Drying
The next step to address this will be drying the affected areas. Our team has access to industrial equipment that will dry walls, floors, and ceilings. We can even keep moisture to a low amount by employing the use of dehumidifiers that will control the humidity within the affected areas.
Cleaning
Any items that have been determined to be salvageable will be cleaned and moved to areas untouched by the loss. If the loss is large enough those contents will be moved off-site to store them safely within our warehouse. We will also use anti-microbial treatments in order to prevent mold growth along with disinfecting areas touched by contaminated water if the situation requires it.
Quick action can save your home from severe water damage, ensuring a smooth recovery. Our team understands that a water loss can be overwhelming, but if the right steps are taken the damage can be minimized. SERVPRO® will get you back on track.
